A little bit of ease...

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting one of the sessions hosted by Good Omen Goodeze (GOG for short) today. GOG came across our radar through the Canberra Collaborative giving round. The ingredients for this special group are simple. Creation. Comfort. Connection. It started by Mary Liondi-Barlow, who at the time was knitting a beanie for a loved one going through Chemo. From there she got interested in crafting for charity and kept making and donating items to the hospital through her good friend and ICU nurse, Kath.

From there it grew, a few friends at a time, and now exists as mutliple groups across Canberra, all coming together to share a cuppa and a story, while also crafting for the willing hands of patients needing a bit of love and support, at Canberra Hospital, Calvary Hospital, Walk-in-Centres and the ACT Ambulance Service.
And while reading the beautiful stories of the people who have received these creations, gives a very clear sense about how impactful these gifts are - reducing anxiety, helping at tough moments and perhaps most of all, helping people realise that they're not alone - the group itself and the gathering of the community members obviously creates its own special magic. It's evident that the creators get just as much joy out of the whole idea, as do the receivers. Such a beautiful initiative.
